According to an updated entry list for Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series SpeedyCash.com 250 at Texas Motor Speedway, Memphis Villarreal will pilot the No. 20 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet Silverado.
Villarreal’s long-time sponsorship partner Laredo Trailer Supply will serve as the primary sponsorship partner for the effort. There are only 34 trucks that will attempt to qualify for the event, which means Villarreal is assured to make his first NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start of the season.
“I am super thankful for the opportunity to go racing in the Young’s Motorsports No.20 truck,” Villarreal said in a team press release. “I can’t thank Laredo Trailer Supply enough for continuing to be a huge supporter of my career as well as EBY Survey for coming on board for this race. It’s so great to have local Texas partners for our home state race.”
The 22-year-old racer competed in four NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series events a season ago, and scored a best finish of 24th in his series debut with G2G Racing at Martinsville Speedway. Villarreal suffered a mechanical issue after 26 laps in his second race with G2G Racing, which came at Nashville Superspeedway, and then he competed in two events for Reaume Brothers Racing (Bristol and Homestead) to close out the season.
The native of Corpus Christi, Texas recently competed in the Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series event at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida, but suffered an issue with the rear suspension and had to drop out of the race early. Villarreal has been competing on the regional short track level with TM Motorsports this season.
Villarreal’s stellar efforts on the short track side of things led to Young’s Motorsports taking a chance on him.
“I’m super excited to have Memphis in the No.20 truck this weekend, he works hard and I have watched him continue to succeed in his Pro Late Model races and I knew we needed to get him in the car this year,” Young’s Motorsports team principal Tyler Young said. “We are excited to go to our home track with local sponsors supporting him!”
Villarreal captured the win in a March 11 Pro Modified event at Houston Motorsports Park, driving the No. 5 entry for TM Motorsports. According to a post on X, Villarreal suffered a hung throttle in practice for that event, which led to his car being heavily damaged. The team was able to repair the car, and Villarreal went on to win the race.
