There are 38 cars on the preliminary entry list for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, which will serve as the 10th race of the 36-race NASCAR Cup Series season. This will mark the third consecutive NASCAR Cup Series race with more than the 36 Chartered teams in the field.

Chase Elliott, who won last weekend’s race at Texas Motor Speedway, will return in the No. 9 Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 with primary sponsorship from NAPA Auto Parts.

Notable entries among the 36 Chartered teams include the No. 15 Rick Ware Racing entry, will have Cody Ware behind the wheel this weekend. Ware will make his first start since the spring race at Richmond last year.

The No. 16 Kaulig Racing entry will also have a full-time NASCAR Xfinity Series racer in the car this weekend as Supercars legend Shane van Gisbergen will make his first NASCAR Cup Series start of the season. Wendy’s will provide primary sponsorship for SVG in this race.

With 38 cars on the entry list, this means there are a total of two “Open” entries in the field this weekend.

Anthony Alfredo will drive the No. 62 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for Beard Motorsports, marking the second start of the season for the driver and team, which competed in the season-opening Daytona 500. DUDE Wipes will be the primary sponsor for this event.

BJ McLeod will return for his third race of the season in the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports entry.
