Daniel Hemric Set to Run 2022 Daytona 500 in Kaulig Racing’s No. 16 Entry

Kaulig Racing will have an all-star Xfinity Series driver lineup in their No. 16 NASCAR Cup Series entry as they go trophy chasing in 2022. On Friday, Daniel Hemric was announced as the first driver to get behind the wheel for a points race this season, as he’ll drive in the 2022 Daytona 500.

The team made the announcement in the form of a Tweet:

As of January 21st, there are 39 confirmed entries for the 2022 Daytona 500, and we have two rumored entries currently in The Money Team Racing and NY Racing, which could push us over 40 cars that show up for the 2022 Daytona 500.

Hemric, 30, has one previous start in The Great American Racing, which came with Richard Childress Racing in 2019. Hemric, who finished 34th in his lone Daytona 500 start, will look to vastly improve his finish this time around.

The Kannapolis, North Carolina-native scored his first-career NASCAR Xfinity Series win as he took home the 2021 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship at Phoenix Raceway in November.

The driver lineup for the No. 16 Cup Series team has been taking shape. A.J. Allmendinger was revealed as the driver for the car in the season-opening exhibition event the Busch Light Clash at the LA Memorial Coliseum, and Noah Gragson stated on Thursday in an interview with SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that his first start will come at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
