Zane Smith to Pilot No. 71 Car For Spire Motorsports in 2024; Truck Roster Coming Together

We now know the car number that Zane Smith will utilize in the third Spire Motorsports car during the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series season. Smith will carry the number 71 on the sides of his race car in the upcoming year.

A Spire Motorsports representative confirmed the accuracy of an initial report from Bob Pockrass on Wednesday to TobyChristie.com but cautioned that the team has no news to officially share at the moment.

The team has yet to officially name a crew chief for the No. 71 entry.

Smith, the 2022 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series champion, will move from Front Row Motorsports to Spire Motorsports through a partnership with Trackhouse Racing as previously announced. Smith has made nine NASCAR Cup Series starts in his career with a career-best finish of 10th coming at the 2023 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

On Wednesday, Pockrass also reported that the Spire Motorsports NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series program will field three trucks in 2024. The driver lineup will consist of Nick Sanchez (full-time), Chase Purdy (full-time) and a third truck will feature a rotating cast of drivers. The team representative also confirmed the accuracy of that report as well.

Spire Motorsports, which has run part-time in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series over the last couple of seasons, announced on September 27th that it had acquired the Kyle Busch Motorsports NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series team, shop, and assets.

At the official announcement of the sale of KBM, Kyle Busch expressed interest in running a five-race NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule with Spire Motorsports in 2024.
