When the NASCAR Cup Series GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway does finally go green on Monday after being postponed due to persistent rain on Sunday, William Byron, Garrett Smithley and Joey Gase will all drop to the rear of the field as their cars failed pre-race inspection multiple times.

For Byron and Smithley, their cars failed inspection twice but passed on the third attempt. As a result, they will not suffer any further penalties.

Byron was scheduled to start 19th, while Smithley was slated to roll from the last position anyway.

Gase’s car failed a third time, which means in addition to dropping to the rear, he’ll also serve a pass through penalty at the start of the race.

Gase was originally supposed to start from 36th.

For fantasy racing purposes, all drivers will be scored from their original starting spots.
