You know how the old expression is that it could rain in the desert if NASCAR came to town? Well, during a showcar event on Friday, the No. 51 Rick Ware Racing team encountered more than just rain as a hail storm broke out at an event at Fort Irwin Training Center in California.

Here is a photo of the car on display in front of the military training center earlier in the day on Friday:

The team had their No. 51 Nurtec ODT showcar unloaded and on display as a part of their Military Salutes Program for the 2021 season, where Rick Ware Racing plans to visit 50-plus military bases throughout the year. On their fourth visit of the week things got pretty dang crazy.

“It was wild,” RWR’s Kate Lummus told TobyChristie.com. “You could see it coming in the distance and we were trying to load up as quickly as possible.”

Rick Ware Racing uploaded video of the car being rolled back into the trailer as the crazy weather event transpired.

Lummus says that the team was able to get their No. 51 Chevrolet Camaro loaded back on the truck without sustaining any hail damage, so there should be no complications as far as the team’s future showcar schedules with other military bases throughout the 2021 season.
