Well that was my first ever flip! Unfortunately got collected by someone and took a bit of a ride. Thanks to the safety crew for doing an amazing job. The United Truck Parts team are having at rebuilding the car and we should be racing tonight at Baypark again ? pic.twitter.com/j7CmprOq26

Shane Van Gisbergen, who will compete full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for Trackhouse Racing next season, has experienced his first flip in a racing vehicle.
The Auckland, New Zealand-native shared the experience via social media on Sunday, with an onboard video showing his wreck in a sprint car this past weekend.
“Well that was my first flip ever,” Van Gisbergen said in the post. “Unfortunately got collected by someone and took a bit of a ride. Thanks to the safety crew for doing an amazing job. The United Truck Parts team are having at rebuilding the car and we should be racing tonight at Baypark again.”
Van Gisbergen was competing in the second heat race on Saturday (December 28) at Baypark Speedway in Tauranga, New Zealand, when making contact with another driver and flipping into the corner.
One spectator at Baypark Speedway captured a video of Van Gisbergen’s tumble on Saturday and uploaded it to their YouTube channel.
While Van Gisbergen is a high-profile international name, known for being a three-time Supercars champion and a NASCAR Cup Series winner, the driver is also no stranger to competing on the dirt in his home country of New Zealand.

Who thought letting him drive a sprint car was good idea. Late Model stock cars race on dirt all the time.
