While Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 at Texas Motor Speedway got off to a very calm start, things have gotten wild, and they’ve continued to stay wild ever since. Michael McDowell is the latest driver to find trouble.
The driver of the No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford Mustang lost control of his car in Turn 4 on Lap 134 while battling Ross Chastain for the race lead. McDowell told his team that he caught a bump in Turn 4 wrong, which upset his car, and sent him around.
As McDowell spun, he backed hard into the outside wall. The damage sustained will end McDowell’s day early.
This caution marks the seventh yellow flag of the race, and the race is just past the halfway point.
Kyle Larson, who was penalized two laps by NASCAR after a detached wheel under caution while he was leading on Lap 116, gained a free pass under this caution. Larson is now one lap down in 33rd. Larson led 77 laps and won Stage 1 from the pole. He’s looking to rebound, but has one lap left to regain.
