Video: Kyle Larson Slams Wall in Turn Two, Collects Chase Briscoe in Playoff Opener at Atlanta

Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe are out of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Atlanta Motor Speedway, after a massive shunt into the Turn 2 wall.

The Elk Grove, California native was running third, behind Team Penske teammates Austin Cindric and Ryan Blaney, when his car snapped and slammed the outside wall.

As the drivers behind Larson in the running order attempted to avoid the spinning No. 5 Chevrolet, the smokescreen made it difficult to see, which led to Chase Briscoe slamming directly into the nearly stationary vehicle.

“I was watching my outside getting into [Turn 1] because somebody kept trying to get to my outside and was probably a little late just trying to see [Larson] wrecking,” added Briscoe. “I didn’t expect anybody to wreck because they weren’t really two-wide, and then I saw the smoke and tried slowing down.”

Both Kyle Larson and Chase Briscoe climbed from the destroyed cars under their own power and were checked and released from the infield care center shortly after that.

“I’m OK,” Larson said after exiting the infield care center. “Thankfully everything held up well inside the car. That was a huge hit. I’m not really sure what caused it. I was actually sort of tight and loaded in the corner. And then I was pretty far around the corner and it just stepped out. I don’t know.. it all just happened really fast.”
