Joey Logano and Ricky Stenhouse Jr are likely out of contention for the victory in the GEICO 500, after a late-race accident at Talladega.

The top-two finishers from February’s season-opener at Daytona International Speedway. look to be out of contention for the victory in Sunday’s GEICO 500 at Talladega Superspeedway, after a multi-car crash broke out late in the event.

Logano, who was running outside the top-15, got an awry bump from Corey LaJoie at the exit of turn two, which sent the Shell-Pennzoil Ford Mustang down the track and into the side of Daniel Suarez, triggering the multi-car accident.

Unfortunately, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. had nowhere to go in the aftermath of the accident, as well as Harrison Burton, who ran inside the top five for a good portion of the event. Burton would retire from the event, but Stenhouse would return to the race on the lead lap.

Also sustaining some minor damage from the accident were William Byron and Riley Herbst, although both of those drivers were able to return to competition without losing a lap, after heading to the pits for repairs.

Despite major-looking damage, Corey LaJoie was able to continue in the race, while maintaining his position on the lead-lap for what would trigger the race into NASCAR Overtime.
