Video: Jimmie Johnson Spins During Green Flag Pit Cycle at Texas


It’s been a rough weekend for seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson at Texas Motor Speedway, a track where he leads the series all-time with seven wins. After crashing in practice on Saturday, Johnson started from the rear of the field in his No. 84 LEGACY MOTOR CLUB Toyota Camry XSE, and on Lap 50, Johnson went for another spin.

In Turn 4, Johnson lost control of his car by himself and smoked the tires. Fortunately, unlike practice, Johnson was able to avoid colliding with the outside wall.

The caution, which came in the midst of a green flag pit sequence, really helped Chase Elliott, Todd Gilliland, Austin Hill, and Daniel Hemric who had yet to make their pit stops. This elevated all four drivers into the top 15 of the running order as the field pitted again during the caution for Johnson’s spin.

Johnson was able to continue on and sits one lap down in 36th as they ran on Lap 80.
