Video: Hocevar’s Three-Wide Move Leads to Blaney Colliding With Jimmie Johnson, Joey Logano

Seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson and two-time series champion Joey Logano exited Sunday’s Brickyard 400 on Lap 110 after a hard impact for both drivers in Turn 1 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The crash was triggered by an aggressive three-wide move behind them by Carson Hocevar. As Hocevar split Austin Dillon and Noah Gragson for a position, he worked his way to the inside of Ryan Blaney heading into Turn 1.

Blaney either didn’t see Hocevar, or expected the driver not to carry things three-wide into the Turn at Indianapolis, and the two collided. This sent Blaney sliding out of control, and he clipped the right rear of Johnson’s No. 84 Toyota, which sent Johnson into Logano.

Both Logano and Johnson slammed hard into the outside wall, while everyone else soldiered on.

  1. So Logano hits someone then blames him for the accident. Maybe his spotter should have told him he was not clear. At some point you also have to admit you made the wrong decision you hit someone and it wrecked you.
