Dawsonville, Georiga-native Chase Elliott will be relegated to a poor finish in his hometown race, after a mechanical issue at the start of the race’s final stage has taken him out of contention for the victory in Sunday’s Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

It was already a difficult day for the Hendrick Motorsports driver, after multiple inspection failures forced the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro to start at the rear of the field. On top of that, Elliott recieved some nose damage in an earlier incident on a restart, which sent Kurt Busch into the outside wall.

Elliott will earn his first finish outside the top-35 in the NASCAR Cup Series since last August at Dover.
