Video: Austin Dillon’s Playoff Hopes Evaporate As His Car Gets Stuck on Daytona Banking in Last Lap Crash

Screengrab from NBC Sports broadcast.

What a crushing end to Austin Dillon’s 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Playoff hopes.

It looked like the driver of the No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Camaro would work his way into the Playoffs as his teammate Tyler Reddick was involved in a hard crash with 15 laps to go. The car was spewing smoke and oil, and it appeared Reddick’s race was done.

But then, Reddick’s team fixed the car. Then, Dillon suffered a battery issue.

After changing the battery, Dillon attempted to charge from the back of the pack to get a win and lock himself into the Playoffs. Unfortunately, the overtime rally ended in a final lap crash where Dillon’s car got stuck on the Daytona banking in turns 3 and 4.
