An abysmal race weekend for Hendrick Motorsports continued on Monday at Michigan International Speedway, as Alex Bowman became the third HMS driver swept up in a crash in the FireKeepers Casino 400.
On Lap 127, Todd Gilliland got squeezed into the outside wall by his Front Row Motorsports teammate Michael McDowell in a three-wide battle, where Austin Cindric forced McDowell wide. As Gilliland slowed, Bowman was tagged by Chase Briscoe, which sent Bowman spinning.
As Bowman spun, he collided with the side of Gilliland’s damaged car.

Bowman would lose five laps, as his No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 would have to be towed away from the scene. He remains in the race in the 33rd position, but he’ll need to hope for some attrition in order to gain some valuable points in Monday’s race.
Chase Elliott, Bowman’s teammate, cut a tire and crashed on Lap 35 during Sunday’s portion of the race. Elliott is out of the race in 36th.

William Byron, who has been in contention for the regular season championship, slapped the outside wall coming off of Turn 4 to end Stage 1 of the race. The damage was enough to end the day for Byron, and he is scored in 35th.
