Travis Mack will officially serve as the crew chief for John Hunter Nemechek and the No. 42 LEGACY MOTOR CLUB Toyota Camry XSE team during the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season. The organization announced the addition of Mack in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.
Mack will assume the duties of crew chief for the No. 42 team effective immediately, according to the release.
The 41-year-old crew chief will round out the crew chief roster for the two full-time LEGACY MOTOR CLUB teams in 2025 as he’ll join Ben Beshore, who will continue in the crew chief role for Erik Jones and the No. 43 team.
Mack, who spent a large portion of his NASCAR career with Hendrick Motorsports, feels comfortable working alongside seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, a co-owner of the LMC team, and he’s pumped to have a hand in building the team up.
“I’m looking forward to helping LEGACY MOTOR CLUB build something great,” said Mack. “There are a lot of talented people here at LEGACY M.C. I worked with Jimmie (Johnson) at Hendrick Motorsports, and I know his work ethic and determination – so his vision for the CLUB is really exciting, and I’m ready to get to work.”
The addition of Mack comes on the heels of a slew of hires within LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, which are aimed at attempting to turn things around for the team, which has struggled mightily the last two seasons. The team has focused on hiring talented individuals to the staff.
“Travis is a welcome addition to LEGACY MOTOR CLUB,” said Jacob Canter, SVP – Sporting Director for LEGACY MOTOR CLUB. “As we continue to make changes and evolve on the competition side, the goal is to place the right people in the right places. That will take some time, but we are thrilled to have a talent like Travis on board and can’t wait to see what he, Ben, and the rest of the engineering team can accomplish over this short off-season.”
Mack, who achieved great results in roles with Clement Racing in the ARCA Menards Series, where he collected three championships with Frank Kimmel, and continued to pile on achievements in various roles throughout the Hendrick Motorsports organization from 2004 until he moved to Trackhouse Racing as the crew chief for Daniel Suarez in 2021, will look to help turn the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB team around.
In 156 races as a crew chief in the NASCAR Cup Series, Mack has one win, 11 top-fives, and 31 top-10 finishes.
Prior to Tuesday’s acquisition of Mack, the team added veteran crew chief Chad Johnston as the Manager of Race Engineering earlier this month. In October, LMC added Brian Campe as the team’s Technical Director, and Canter was acquired in August.
