Tab Boyd, who has spent his last four seasons in the NASCAR Cup Series as the spotter for William Byron, will move from Hendrick Motorsports to JTG Daugherty Racing for the 2022 season. Boyd will become the new spotter for Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

The Olive Branch, Mississippi-native confirmed the spotter change on ‘Garage Talk’ with the Garage Guys (Dale and Chase).

“…got a really good spotter, Tab Boyd is coming over to spot for us, so I think that’s gonna be huge,” Stenhouse told the Garage Guys. “He’s got a lot of experience of race wins, and championships and things like that, so I think that’ll be a good asset to our program as well.”

This is a new challenge for Boyd, who had become accustomed to reaching victory lane in each of the last two seasons as the spotter for Byron.

Now, he’ll look to help Stenhouse reach victory lane for the first time since 2017, when Stenhouse won twice and made the Playoffs.

Frank Deiny, who served as the spotter for Stenhouse a season ago, will move to a new organization for the 2022 season.

In 2021, his second season with JTG Daugherty Racing, Stenhouse finished the season 22nd in the championship standings. Stenhouse recorded a runner-up finish on the dirt at Bristol and he was sixth at Nashville Superspeedway.

Stenhouse and JTG Daugherty Racing will hope the Next Gen car is the great equalizer that allows them to be a consistent threat to win in 2022.

Hendrick Motorsports confirmed Boyd’s departure from the championship-winning organization to TobyChristie.com, but says no official replacement has been hired to spot for the No. 24 team, at this time.
