According to a news report from FOX 32 Chicago on Wednesday, two cart vehicles have been stolen from the 500 block of South Columbus, where construction had begun on the grandstands for July’s NASCAR Street Course Race.

It appears that the debut of the Chicago Street Course, which is scheduled to host both the NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series in a Fourth of July doubleheader, has already gotten off to a tumultuous start.

According to a report from FOX 32 Chicago, a witness told Chicago-area police at 7:00 AM that an unidentified offender had broken into a lot in the 500 block of South Columbus, where they stole a pair of cart vehicles.

Just recently, crews had begun construction on the grandstands to be used by spectators in NASCAR’s inaugural Street Course Race in Chicago, which is scheduled to take place at the beginning of next month.

With security crews providing additional surveillance in the overnight hours, it is unknown how this crime was able to be carried out, in the first place. However, Area Three detectives are currently investigating.

FOX 32 has reached out to NASCAR for clarification on what comes next but has yet to receive a response from the sanctioning body.

Similarly, TobyChristie.com has reached out to NASCAR in hopes of receiving a statement about the stolen cart vehicles. As of the time of publishing, that request has gone unanswered. When/if a response is provided, it will be added to this story as an update.
