Persistent and Heavy Rain Postpones Start of NASCAR Cup Race at Daytona to 10AM ET on Sunday

For those who were looking forward to seeing the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series Playoff field set on Saturday night under the lights at Daytona International Speedway, mother nature didn’t have the same plan.

Heavy rain that pounded Daytona International Speedway throughout the day and into the evening has forced NASCAR to postpone the start of the Coke Zero Sugar 400 to Sunday, August 28th. The race will get underway at 10:00 AM ET and television coverage, which had been set for NBC on Saturday night, will shift to CNBC on Sunday.

Sunday’s race will mark the final race of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series regular season, which means the event is the final chance for any driver not inside the 16-driver Playoff field to win and make their way in to battle for the title.

When the race does indeed go green, it’ll be 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Larson and his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott, who secured the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series regular season championship, that will occupy the front row.
