NASCAR Announces Race Weekend Protocols for Events Scheduled Through June 21st

On Wednesday Morning, NASCAR announced the updated weekend procedures for the NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series events scheduled to run through June 21st at Talladega Superspeedway. These updated protocols are in effect for Bristol, Atlanta, Martinsville, Homestead-Miami & Talladega.


Bristol Motor Speedway (May 30th & 31st)


NASCAR Cup Series (May 31st):

Pit Selection order will be based on the finishing position from the Wednesday, May 27 race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup:

  • 1st – 12th: Random draw from chartered teams 1st – 12th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 13th – 24th: Random draw from chartered teams 13th – 24th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 25th – 36th: Random draw from chartered teams 25th – 36th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 37th – 40th: Open teams in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • Random Draw scheduled for Thursday, May 28th.

NASCAR Xfinity Series (May 30th):

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing position from the Monday, May 25th event at Charlotte Motor Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup: 

  • The first twelve teams based on the “Adverse Conditions Lineup Eligibility” will be randomly assigned starting positions 1st – 12th.
  • The next twelve teams based on the “Adverse Conditions Lineup Eligibility” will be randomly assigned starting positions 13th – 24th.
  • The next twelve teams based on the “Adverse Conditions Lineup Eligibility” will be randomly assigned starting positions 25th – 36th.
  • Any entries that are eligible for the event in positions 37 – 40, will be assigned starting positions based on eligibility criteria.

Atlanta Motor Speedway (June 6th & 7th)


NASCAR Cup Series (June 7th):

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing positions from the Sunday, May 31st race at Bristol Motor Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup:

  • 1st – 12th: Random draw from chartered teams 1st – 12th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 13th – 24th: Random draw from chartered teams 13th – 24th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 25th – 36th: Random draw from chartered teams 25th – 36th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 37th – 40th: Open teams in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

NASCAR Xfinity Series (June 6th):

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing position from the Saturday, May 30th event at Bristol Motor Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup: 

  • The first twelve teams based on the “Adverse Conditions Lineup Eligibility” will be randomly assigned starting positions 1st – 12th.
  • The next twelve teams based on the “Adverse Conditions Lineup Eligibility” will be randomly assigned starting positions 13th – 24th.
  • The next twelve teams based on the “Adverse Conditions Lineup Eligibility” will be randomly assigned starting positions 25th – 36th.
  • Any entries that are eligible for the event in positions 37 – 40, will be assigned starting positions based on eligibility criteria.

NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (June 6th):

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing position from the Tuesday, May 26th event at Charlotte Motor Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup:

  • 1st – 10th: Random draw from teams who rank 1st – 10th in 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Owner Standings.
  • 11th – 21st: Random draw from teams who rank 11th – 21st in 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Owner Standings.
  • 22nd – 32nd: Randon draw from teams who rank 22nd – 32nd in 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Owner Standings.
  • 33rd – 40th: Any vehicles that are eligible for the event in positions 33rd – 40th will be assigned starting positions based on their order of eligibility.

Martinsville Speedway (June 10th)


NASCAR Cup Series (June 10th):

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing positions from the Sunday, June 7th race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup:

  • 1st – 12th: Random draw from chartered teams 1st – 12th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 13th – 24th: Random draw from chartered teams 13th – 24th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 25th – 36th: Random draw from chartered teams 25th – 36th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 37th – 40th: Open teams in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

Homestead-Miami Speedway (June 13th & 14th)


NASCAR Cup Series (June 14th):

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing positions from the Wednesday, June 10th race at Martinsville Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup:

  • 1st – 12th: Random draw from chartered teams 1st – 12th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 13th – 24th: Random draw from chartered teams 13th – 24th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 25th – 36th: Random draw from chartered teams 25th – 36th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 37th – 40th: Open teams in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing position from the Saturday, June 13th event at Homestead-Miami Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup:

  • 1st – 15th: Inversion of the top-fifteen finishers from the June 13th event at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
  • 16th – 40th: Awarded based on finishing position from June 13th event at Homestead-Miami Speedway, with new entrants being placed at the rear of the field to start the June 14th event.

NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series (June 13th):

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing position from the Saturday, June 6th event at Atlanta Motor Speedway, followed by new entries in order of 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup:

  • 1st – 10th: Random draw from teams who rank 1st – 10th in 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Owner Standings.
  • 11th – 21st: Random draw from teams who rank 11th – 21st in 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Owner Standings.
  • 22nd – 32nd: Random draw from teams who rank 22nd – 32nd in 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Owner Standings.
  • 33rd – 40th: Any vehicles that are eligible for the event in positions 33rd – 40th will be assigned starting positions based on their order of eligibility.

Talladega Superspeedway (June 20th & 21st)


NASCAR Cup Series (June 21st):

There will be one 50-minute practice session held, on Saturday, June 20th, from 11:35 a.m. to 12:25 p.m. Practice session will be utilized to test out modifications to new superspeedway aero package.

Pit Selection order will be based on finishing positions from the Sunday, June 14th race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, followed by new entires in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

Starting Lineup:

  • 1st – 12th: Random draw from chartered teams 1st – 12th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 13th – 24th: Random draw from chartered teams 13th – 24th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 25th – 36th: Random draw from chartered teams 25th – 36th in 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.
  • 37th – 40th: Open teams in order of 2020 NASCAR Cup Series Owner Standings.

NASCAR Xfinity Series (June 20th):

  • Any entries that are eligible for the event in positions 37 – 40, will be assigned starting positions based on eligibility criteria.
