Martin Truex Jr. and Sherry Pollex have elected to end their long-term relationship, the NASCAR Cup Series driver confirmed via his Instagram story on Friday.

The Mayetta, New Jersey native, who pilots the No. 19 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota Camry TRD full-time at NASCAR’s top level, released a short statement on Friday, which reads as follows:

“To my fans and partners… Sherry and I have made the decision to end our relationship. I will continue supporting Sherry moving forward. I would ask that you respect our privacy as there will be no further comment about this matter.”

Despite reservations about returning to the NASCAR Cup Series for another season, the 42-year-old made the decision to renew his contract with Joe Gibbs Racing during the Summer, which will ensure his seat in the No. 19 Toyota Camry in 2023.

Truex and Pollex have been in a relationship since 2005, and have worked hand-in-hand to raise money for a number of different causes through the Martin Truex Jr Foundation and SherryStrong, including Ovarian Cancer Research.

Pollex was diagnosed with Stage 3 Ovarian Cancer in 2014 and was given a 30-percent chance of surviving over the course of the next five years. Eight years later, she’s still fighting cancer, which has come in and out of remission several times.

In July 2022, Pollex revealed to Jeff Gluck of The Athletic that doctors had found that her cancer had returned, this time spreading to her lung. After several different methods of treatment, doctors determined the cancer was platinum-resistant – narrowing the available pool of next steps.

In his statement, Truex reiterates that no further comments will be made on the matter.

  1. God bless both of them . I lost my wife to ovarian cancer after a long battle of 9 years and a wonderful marriage of 48 years .

  2. Sherry, you are in my prayers. God bless you both, I’m sorry to hear that you have broken up. You two have gone through so much together. You both have my prayers. ???

  3. You have both been an inspiration to so many people. I’m sorry to hear of your split. May God bless you both with peace, healing, comfort and strength. You have many people pulling for you, and you are loved more than you know. Thank you for sharing your journey with us. Continued prayers. God bless you.

  4. The best to both of you as you go your separate ways. Martin, I’m going to watch you make your way to the winners circle. Each time ?

    1. Ridiculous comment. You are an awful human being. Maybe she wanted the split also. He the hell do you know what happened.

  5. So sorry to hear that you have split, the cutest couple ever, but I do wish you both the best and respect your wishes. God bless you both #Sherry Strong. #19 Go Truex ??

  6. I respect and admire both of you I know any decision is difficult to make. You are both in my thoughts and prayers and God bless.

  7. I’m so sad to hear this! It is my belief that this breakup is done out love! Sherry’s cancer is platinum resistant and no longer responding to treatment! Absolutely heartbreaking

  8. Since we weren’t seeing Sherry as much at the track, I’ll be honest I was getting a feeling of distancing between the two. Sad from a viewers standpoint but it’s between the two of them. Best of luck for each of you to find happiness with another at some point. My belief if life is better lived with a loving partner!

  9. I agree it is out of love for each other that they have broken up she has been told there is nothing more they can do for her and I think that she wants Martin to have a life and for him to move forward because as much as it hurts to say Sherry can’t move forward… My prayers are with them both I know this wasn’t easy for them…

  10. Sorry for your break up I wish Sherry the best and God bless her. May God, Hiller, and I wish Martin Truex, the best in his life and God bless him as well.

  11. Hi Sherry I think about you and pray that you are doing better. I was just thinking about Charlee. As I sit here watching the Dover race, Charlee came to me. I am sad about you and MTJ. please take care of yourself I will continue pray ? for you.
