LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, which had previously announced Carson Hocevar as the pilot of its No. 42 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for the remainder of the season, will alter the plan a bit.

John Hunter Nemechek, who will drive the No. 42 car full-time next season, will be behind the wheel of the car for this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Homestead-Miami Speedway. LMC co-owner Jimmie Johnson made the announcement in a video shared to social media on Monday afternoon.

“Hi fans. I want to let you know about a quick change for Homestead,” Johnson said in the video. “Thanks to our long-term partners at Chevy, and our future partners Toyota and Joe Gibbs Racing, we have an opportunity to run one race this season with our future driver John Hunter Nemechek in the 42 car. It’ll just be one race. Carson is going to step aside, he’s going to come hang out at the race and watch. We’ll put Carson back in to close out the season.”

As Johnson explains, the move was made possible thanks to cooperation between Chevrolet and Toyota, as Nemechek is a Toyota Racing driver in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. LMC will move from Chevrolet to Toyota in 2024.

Nemechek, 26, has three top-10 finishes over 40 career starts in the NASCAR Cup Series. He will enter a car that has been improving as of late with Hocevar behind the wheel.

According to the video update, Hocevar will return to the No. 42 machine for the final two races of the season at Martinsville Speedway and Phoenix Raceway.

Hocevar has recorded four top-20 finishes in the No. 42 entry in just six starts.
