Fresh off of his 32nd career victory at NASCAR’s top-level on Sunday Night, Kurt Busch is looking ahead to what the future holds beyond next season, as  in an interview with CBS Sports’ Matt Mayer the 2003 NASCAR Cup Series Champion says there is a “50/50” chance that 2021 will be his final season in NASCAR.

Busch – who signed a multi-year contract with Chip Ganassi Racing in November 2019 — will be joined by Chip Ganassi Racing “development driver” Ross Chastain at the two-car NASCAR Cup Series organization in 2021, with Busch returning for a third season in the No. 1.

“I’ve been at this game a long time,” said Busch. “I’ve been out there for 21 years and my wife is a great supporter of mine and she loves the racing, but it’s been a bunch of years on the road and on the circuit and we’ll see what 2022 brings.”

The Las Vegas, Nevada-native’s 714 NASCAR Cup Series starts ranks 15th all-time, with Busch on track to compete in 756 NASCAR Cup Series races by the end of 2021, which would move him to 12th on the all-time list.

A major part of Busch’s contract extension being through 2021 with Chip Ganassi Racing was the implementation of the NextGen car, which had its debut pushed back until 2022 because of the lingering effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
