Darius Rucker, who has appeared at numerous NASCAR Cup Series events over the years, has officially taken his love for the sport to the next level. In an interview on the Dan Patrick Show on Wednesday, the three-time Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter revealed that he has become a co-owner of a NASCAR Cup Series team.
Rucker, who had been conducting the interview while wearing a LEGACY MOTOR CLUB team hat, stopped the line of questioning from Patrick to reveal some breaking news during his interview. Rucker explained that he is a good friend of seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, and that he had confirmed with Johnson ahead of the interview that he was allowed to disclose something on the air.
That’s when Rucker revealed that he has joined the ownership group of the LEGACY MOTOR CLUB NASCAR Cup Series team.
“We can announce now that I’m one of the investors and one of the owners of LEGACY MOTOR CLUB,” Rucker said. “So, you know, I own NASCAR teams now, Dan. Look at me.”
Rucker continued, “It’s cool. You know how much I love motorsports. You know how much I’ve loved NASCAR for years, so this is pretty cool for me.”
This is the latest in a long line of celebrity team owners who have infused with NASCAR in recent years. Rucker joins NBA legends Michael Jordan and Brad Daugherty as current team co-owners, and fellow musician Pitbull, who was a co-owner of Trackhouse Racing from 2021 until 2025.
LEGACY MOTOR CLUB fields two full-time entries in the NASCAR Cup Series, currently. The team fields the No. 42 Toyota for driver John Hunter Nemechek, as well as the No. 43 Toyota for Erik Jones. Jimmie Johnson drives the team’s part-time No. 84 entry in select events.
