Tuesday, the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame sent out a press release showcasing the athletes who were selected to be inducted in their 2019 class. Among the 12 that were selected was 15-time NASCAR Most Popular driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The honor is unique because Earnhardt will join his father, seven-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champion Dale Earnhardt Sr., in the Hall.

Earnhardt’s class also includes Willie Bradshaw, Eddie Bridges, Rod Broadway, Gene Corrigan, Steve Gabriel, Dee Kantner, Davis Love III, Paul Miller, Neill McGeachy, and Thell Overman.

“The achievements of this year’s class of inductees enrich North Carolina’s remarkable sports heritage, and the individuals have certainly earned the honor of joining the 351 men and women who have been previously enshrined,” said Nora Lynn Finch, president of the Hall in the release. “This is our 56th class, and we look forward to celebrating this special time in our state’s sports history.”

The 2019 North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame class will be enshrined during the 56th annual induction banquet on May 3rd at the Raleigh Convention Center. Tickets are available for the event at ncsportshalloffame.org or by calling 919-845-3455.

Earnhardt is a two-time Daytona 500 champion, who collected a total of 26 Cup Series wins over an 18-year career. Additionally, Earnhardt has won 24 times in the NASCAR Xfinity Series and he won back-to-back championships in the NXS in 1998 and 1999.

Now, after a over two decades of wheeling a race car around race tracks, Earnhardt will take his place in a Hall of Fame that has been a fixture of the state of North Carolina since 1963.
