Championship contender Chase Elliott will be forced to start at the rear of the field for Sunday’s Season Finale 500 at Phoenix Raceway, after his Hendrick Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro failed pre-race technical inspection twice early Sunday Afternoon.

The Dawsonville, Georgia-native was scheduled to start from the pole in his first championship four appearance, but instead will have a large deficit to make up when the race goes green, as Brad Keselowski, Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano will all start on the first two rows.

Elliott’s NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE passed technical inspection on the third time through, meaning that the team will not face any additional penalties.
