NASCAR Cup Series rookie Carson Hocevar has been penalized by NASCAR for his actions under the caution flag in the final 100 laps of Sunday’s Ally 400 at Nashville Superspeedway.

Hocevar, who competes full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series for Spire Motorsports, has been fined $50,000 by the sanctioning body and assessed with the loss of 25 driver points after it was determined that the Portage, Michigan native intentionally spun Harrison Burton (No. 21) down the backstretch while under caution at Lap 227.

The origin of the incident between Hocevar and Burton is unknown, but the contact (and eventual spinning out of the Wood Brothers Racing machine) was picked up on NBC Sports cameras after Christopher Bell had spun and crashed his No. 20 Toyota Camry XSE in the middle of the first and second corner.

Neither driver was in the vicinity of the incident that caused the caution involving Christopher Bell, which led to confusion about the contact between the two young drivers.

There were no penalties assessed to Hocevar in-race on Sunday, but once the checkered flag was displayed, NASCAR confirmed to several members of the media that it would be looking further into the incident between Burton and Hocevar, and any penalties would be announced mid-week.

The points penalty drops Carson Hocevar from 22nd to 24th in NASCAR Cup Series point standings.

Other penalties from the Nashville weekend include $2,500 fines to NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series crew chiefs Jon Leonard and Jeriod Prince, after having improperly secured lug nuts post race on Friday.
