Roof numbers are a critical part of a race car, helping to identify the car from the air, and to the aid of NASCAR and its spotters.

However, it appears that Bubba Wallace’s No. 23 Camry is racing with an upside-down roof number during Sunday’s race at Michigan.

Jaret Lundberg, known as The Iceberg on Youtube, caught the mistake, sending NASCAR Twitter into a frenzy of questions and jokes.

Steve Luvender was able to snag a photo of the whole car, with the No. 23 reading as “EZ” instead.

Interestingly, thanks to the clever design of the car, the french fry stripes still match the hood almost perfectly.

While likely just an installer’s mistake from the individuals who put the wrap together, it surely isn’t slowing down the No. 23 Camry on-track, with Bubba showing some great strength in Sunday’s Firekeepers Casino 400.

Technically speaking, the car is in violation of the NASCAR Rulebook, Rule 7.6.e. The roof number must read from the driver’s side, and not the passenger’s side.

We doubt that NASCAR will issue any sport of penalty.

  1. Bubba Wallace is getting undue recognition because he is black. Never won a race, probably never will. Thank God for garage door pulls made from rope, otherwise he’d just be another Bubba!!

  2. Why doesn’t Nascar , nail him for upside down # on the roof . A rule , is a rule , no matter how much he cries

  3. Only reason I watch bubba is to know who’s sponsored him.So I will not buy there products. HES A JOKE!!
