As NASCAR heads to wine country for the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, Alex Bowman will have a colorful logo on the hood of his No. 48 Ally Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.

Yes, Ally typically brings among the boldest and most colorful car designs of any sponsor in the sport, but this weekend, the hood will feature an entire array of colors in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

June marks Pride Month, and Ally will replace its usual purple “a” logo on the hood with an “a” that has the Progress Pride Flag filled into it. In addition to the pride rainbow flag, the Progress Pride Flag also features black and brown stripes, as well as the colors of the trans flag.

Below the Ally logo is the tagline: Better Together.

Bowman, who missed three NASCAR Cup Series points-paying races with a broken back which he suffered in a crash during a Sprint Car event at 34 Raceway, sits just outside the Playoff cutline heading into Sonoma.

The Tucson, Arizona native will look to carry the special No. 48 machine to victory lane this weekend, and if he can do that, he’ll lock his spot into the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs.

Bowman finished 12th in the Coca-Cola 600 a couple of weeks ago in his first race back from injury, and this past weekend, it looked like he would possibly score a top-10 finish at WWT Raceway at Gateway, but a transmission issue on the final restart relegated Bowman to a 26th-place finish.

The Hendrick Motorsports driver was the NASCAR Cup Series point leader for three consecutive weeks earlier in the season, but was dropped to seventh in the standings after a 60-point penalty was issued to his team by NASCAR following the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond Raceway.

Despite the penalty, and missed races due to injury, the fact that Bowman sits so close to the cutline shows how good his 2023 season has been.
