Brad Keselowski, a champion of the NASCAR Cup Series and the co-owner of RFK Racing, has suffered a broken leg, the team confirmed in a statement on Friday.

In their statement, RFK Racing says: “Albeit untimely, we feel that in the interest of transparency, we share that RFK Racing co-owner and driver Brad Keselowski suffered a broken leg while on a ski trip with his family Thursday.”

The Rochester Hills, Michigan-native has successfully completed routine surgery, and his doctors are expecting him to make a full and quick recovery.

Keselowski, one of the most veteran drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series, serves as the full-time driver of the No. 6 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for RFK Racing. The 41-year-old is also a co-owner of the organization, which also fields entries at NASCAR’s top-level for Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece.

“I’m grateful for the medical team who took great care of me and for the support system around me,” said Keselowski. “My attention now is fully on recovery. I’m motivated to get back to full strength as quickly as possible and will work relentlessly to be ready for Daytona.”

Keselowski made a post to social media on Friday, shortly after RFK Racing released its official statement on the matter, saying: “Life has a way of reminding you to slow down. Grateful for my family by my side, an excellent medical team, and the ability to take a few steps forward today. Focused on Daytona. Bonus – I’m now bionic.”

While not confirmed by RFK Racing (or cleared by medical officials), it appears that Keselowski, a 36-time NASCAR Cup Series race-winner and a former champion of the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, is aiming to be back in the racecar for the season-opener at Daytona International Speedway on February 15.

It is unknown at this time whether Keselowski will participate in The Clash at Bowman Gray Stadium, which is scheduled for February 1. Additional confirmations on the driver’s status will be provided by RFK Racing at a later date.
