NASCAR Silly Season is far from over, and a popular road course ringer could be returning to the NASCAR Cup Series thanks to a viral tweet.

Josh Stiegman visited the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Indianapolis and spotted a No. 66 MBM Motorsports Next Gen Mustang with Boris Said’s name on the name rail. Later posting the photos to social media, the tweet caught the attention of many in the NASCAR social landscape, with questions and excitement regarding the potential of a Said return to Cup.

MBM Motorsports team owner Carl Long clarified to TobyChristie.com the details of the car with Said’s name on it.

“The driver lineup is open for every race,” Long said. “Boris is set to run some road course races if we get sponsorship.”

As of this publishing, no majority sponsor has stepped forward to help get Said in the No. 66 Mustang.

However with fans making their voices heard via social media about the return of the road course ace, Long has faith that the fan reception will help persuade a potential sponsor.

The California driver has 20 years of experience in the NASCAR Cup Series, often hopping into the series for road course starts. Said holds eight top-ten finishes include five at Sonoma, with two poles coming at Sonoma in 2003 and Daytona in 2006.

Said joined MBM for a single start in the Xfinity Series at COTA in May last season, scoring a 31st place finish.

The team is actively seeking sponsorship for the 2022 Daytona 500, along with other races throughout the season.

Specific race dates for Said and MBM’s plans for 2022 are to be shared at a later date.
