Will Power led opening practice for this weekend’s Bommarito Automotive Group 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway.

Piloting the No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet, the 41-year-old Aussie and current championship leader put down a flying lap of 180.539 mph (24.9254s) around the 1.25-mile oval to claim the top spot.

Reigning NTT IndyCar Series champion Alex Palou ended up putting the No. 10 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda in second, 0.0458s behind Power.

Arrow McLaren SP’s Felix Rosenqvist was third, followed by the No. 3 Team Penske Chevrolet of Scott McLaughlin in fourth. Marcus Ericsson’s No. 8 Chip Ganassi Racing Honda was fifth.

Pato O’Ward, Graham Rahal, Josef Newgarden, Takuma Sato, and Scott Dixon rounded out the rest of the top 10.

David Malukas logged the most laps of the session at 57, with his best putting him 13th out of 26 entrants.

There were no incidents in the 60-minute session.
