Fast 12 competitor, Romain Grosjean tried to put together a lap around the Raceway at Belle Isle Park to advance to the Fast Six in qualifying, instead he went for a single car incident.

Grosjean tapped the wall which presumably caused a toe link to break. The No. 28 Andretti Autosport Honda immediately lost the ability to turn right out of Turn 13, which led him to spin and violently smack the wall on the right side.

Here is video of the accident:

According to Grosjean, his car just sucked in qualifying.

“We just sucked,” Grosjean said, via Peacock. “We were really good in FP1, really good this morning and the car let go. I don’t why, why we couldn’t keep going.

“The first one I did (break a toe link). I don’t know why I made the first contact because I didn’t try anything different from the lap before. So I don’t why the rear end snapped on us, so we need to just need to analyze and understand and get better. Because obviously, that’s not what we want.”

Grosjean, 36, currently holds the 12th place starting position for Sunday’s Detroit Grand Prix. Extensive damage will lead to repairs by the Andretti team.
