Sage Karam was taken to Methodist Hospital after the completion of the 106th Running of the Indianapolis 500.

The 27-year-old Pennsylvania native ended up making contact with another car and crashed in Turn 2 on the final lap, which left him with a 23rd-place finish. He was able to walk away from the incident, and cleared concussion protocols after being seen by IndyCar’s medical team.

However, further evaluation was needed, according to a statement released by Dr. Geoffrey Billows, NTT IndyCar Series and IMS Medical Services Director.

“Sage Karam was evaluated and passed all concussion protocols,” the statement read. “He is experiencing some muscular skeletal soreness and he will be transported to Methodist Hospital for further imaging and evaluation.”

Jody Karam, Sage’s father, also shared an update that his son was transported to Methodist Hospital as a “cautionary measure” per the request of IndyCar’s medical team.

Karam has given information on his condition, that he is okay.
