In Sunday Afternoon’s second-leg of a doubleheader race weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park, Marc-Antoine Camirand was finally able to accomplish something that his team owner, four-time NASCAR Pinty’s Series champion Scott Steckly, was unable to do throughout his career, park the No. 22 car in victory lane on a road course.

The 42-year-old used loads of patience to work over 22 Racing teammate Alex Tagliani for the victory, houding the rear bumper of the road racing veteran and applying immense pressure, eventually making the race-winning pass for the victory with under five laps to go, before scurrying away from the top-four in the lead pack, for the second NASCAR Pinty’s Series victory of his career, and his first on a road course.

Tagliani was able to hold on for a second-place finish, with Kyle Marcelli, Kevin Lacroix and Andrew Ranger rounding out the top-five. Gary Klutt, Matthew Scannell, Brett Taylor, Dexter Stacey and Alex Guenette rounded out the top-10 finishers, while yesterday’s winner, L.P. Dumoulin faded over the race’s last run, coming home in 11th-place.

The 51-lap event – 21 laps longer than Saturday’s Olymel Grand Prix of Ontario — had the pace slowed under the full course caution on three occasions, the biggest of which was for an incident by JF Laberge, when he stuffed the Wight Motorsports No. 80 into the tire barriers in turn three, relegating himself to a finish outside the top-20.

At the halfway point of the 2021 NASCAR Pinty’s Series season, Alex Tagliani holds an eight-point advantage over L.P. Dumoulin, with Kevin Lacroix, Andrew Ranger and Treyten Lapcevich rounding out the top-five in points. The series will continue on to the Flamboro Speedway on Sunday, September 12, for another short track doubleheader.
