Austin Green, the son of former NASCAR Xfinity Series champion David Green, is officially a race winner in the ARCA Menards Series. Green, who was driving the No. 82 Chevrolet for Pinnacle Racing Group in Friday’s General Tire 150 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, cruised to a victory over Grant Enfinger, a full-time NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series competitor.

The 24-year-old racer, who was competing in just his second career ARCA Menards Series start, took his first career win by a victory margin of 2.569 seconds. Green cut his racing teeth at Charlotte Motor Speedway on the quarter-mile oval on the frontstretch of the iconic 1.5-mile speedway.

To get his first win at his home track was special for Green.

“It’s the greatest,” Green said in an interview with FS1 after the race. “You know, obviously, getting to race at home and have the success, and let alone win. I haven’t won in a while, so, the last couple of laps, I teared up a little bit. But no, just hats off to everyone at PRG, and Overplay Games. Brought a wicked fast car.”

Green led a race-high 52 laps in the event.

Enfinger looked like he had a CR7 Motorsports car, which was able to win the race at several points in the race, but at the end of the event, Enfinger’s feedback led to the team over-adjusting the No. 97 car.

“It was way better than it was in practice, but I think I asked them to over-adjust it a little bit there,” Enfinger admitted. “Got tight there at the end. It was fun racing with these guys. I think if I could have shaken out into second place a little bit sooner, maybe I would have had something.”

Lavar Scott, who worked his way from the ninth starting position and had a car that didn’t look capable of competing near the front, was able to finish third in his No. 6 REV Racing Chevrolet. Scott credited his crew for continuing to make adjustments throughout the race, which put him in a position to score a solid finish.

“It’s tough, but I was just talking to someone about this a few minutes ago. That is like a prime example of REV Racing, the never-quit mentality. From where we started this day off speed-wise and handling-wise — I’m very confident in myself and my team’s ability, but I wasn’t too optimistic today,” Scott said. “I’ll be honest. But my crew chief, Glen, worked at it all day, and my car chief, Ryan, and the team made good adjustments all day and came away with a P3 finish. That’s just REV Racing, a never-quit mentality.”

The hard-fought podium finish would allow Scott to scoot past Brenden Queen for the ARCA Menards Series point lead. Scott now holds a 10-point lead over Queen and Lawless Alan after Friday night’s race at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Will Kimmel surprised just about everybody by scoring the pole for the event in his No. 69 Ford and led the opening 12 laps of the race. But as he was coming to the line to complete the 13th lap of the race, Kimmel encountered an engine issue and pulled to the side. This handed the lead to William Sawalich.

Kimmel would finish a disappointing 28th.

Around the time that Kimmel had his issues, Brenden Queen, the ARCA Menards Series point leader heading into the day, also encountered a problem as he hit the wall and cut a tire. Queen would limp around to pit road, where he would receive repairs.

Due to attrition throughout the race, Queen would finish 14th, two laps off the pace.

The turning point of the race was a messy Lap 38 restart, which saw Enfinger and Cleetus McFarland (Garrett Mitchell) lined up on the front row. McFarland’s No. 30 Rette Jones Racing team left him on the track on older tires in an effort to gain track position.

But on the restart, McFarland spun his tires and collected Isabella Robusto, which sent her No. 55 Venturini Motorsports Toyota into the outside wall. Robusto would then careen back across the track directly into Spencer Gallagher’s No. 23 Chevrolet, which would end his race as well.

A massive melee would ensue behind the initial restart incident, and Sawalich, who had been the race’s dominant driver to that point, would suffer front-end damage, which would hamper his No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota for the remainder of the event.

McFarland, who would go on to finish ninth, would express regret over the restart, which went wrong.

“Yeah, I want to start off by apologizing to the team that I took out. I think it was several cars,” McFarland said. “And I just feel terrible about that. Every time I go racing, I don’t want to get taken out, and I’ve felt it. It sucks. I’ve been sent home. I made a complete rookie maneuver on the restart. I zigged, and then I zagged. [She] was blowing my door off and on the zag, I hit [her] and put [her] into the wall. I feel terrible about it.”

Next up for the ARCA Menards Series is a date with Michigan International Speedway on Friday, June 6. The Henry Ford Health 200 will be broadcast live on FS2, and television coverage of the race will kick off at 6:00 PM ET.
