You may know him from short tracks around the world, or his SRX stardom, but most race fans have seen Doug Coby make a name for himself in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Series – and he continued his dominance tonight.

Coby dominated Saturday night’s race at Riverhead Raceway, in his first start since announcing he would go part-time in the series this season. Tommy Baldwin also got his team back into victory lane in the modifieds with the win.

The evening started with a two-plus-hour rain delay, but once the green flag finally dropped, the Doug Coby clinic began, with the 42-year-old taking the lead on the 10th lap of the event, and never looking back.

It wasn’t until a caution came out JUST before the white flag that the intensity started to rise, but despite adversity, the modified ace held off Patrick Emerling – co-owner of Emerling-Gase Motorsports in the NASCAR Xfinity Series — to secure the checkered flag.

Ron Silk finished in third place, with Dylan Slepian and Timmy Solomito rounding out the race’s top-five finishers. John Baker, Kyle Soper, John Beatty Jr, Eric Goodale, and Kyle Bonsignore rounded out the top-10.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour is scheduled to continue its season with its fourth race of the season on Saturday, May 21st at Lee USA Speedway.
