ATYL: Pressing The Panic Button On Ford | Larson Vs. Hamlin | Dover is Back

A defensive race at The Monster Mile produced some intense racing between two veteran drivers.

It’s easy to say some of the best battles in the Gen 7 era have come from Kyle Larson and Denny Hamlin fighting for the win.

The same is true for Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series Würth 400 at Dover Motor Speedway. While Hamlin was able to maintain track position all day, Larson, driving the No. 5, had to fight his way through the pack, from a 21st-place starting spot.

Racing neck-and-neck with one another, it was going to take flawless execution by the drivers and their crews to take control of the race. With a fast pit stop from the Mavis Tires crew to get their Toyota Camry XSE ahead of Larson, the race was on. On the final restart, the Chesterfield native got the lead and held off the hard-charging 2021 NASCAR Cup Series Champion for the win.

Though a fantastic restart by Hamlin helped him claim the victory, air-blocking helped just a bit more. Following the race, Kyle Larson made some interesting comments about how the race was won and what he would like to see done to prevent some of these issues in the future.
