Cory Selig Suffers Cracked Sternum, Ribs Following Pit Road Incident at Homestead

After a pit road incident during Saturday’s Baptist Health Cancer Care 200 at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Cory Selig, a pit crew member from Reaume Brothers Racing, was transported to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami, Florida.

The incident, which happened under a round of yellow-flag pit stops with three laps remaining in the race’s second stage, occurred when Memphis Villarreal (#33) and Mason Maggio (#22) made contact while entering their respective pit stalls.

Villarreal, making his fourth NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series start for Reaume Brothers Racing, was then knocked into his pit crew — who were standing in the pit stall about to pit the No. 33 Ford F-150.

Cory Selig, the front-changer on the No. 33 Ford F-150, was transported to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami, Florida after the incident, where he was evaluated and diagnosed with a cracked sternum and several broken ribs.

“During [Saturday’s] race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, front tire changer Cory Selig was involved in an accident on pit road. Selig has been transported to Jackson South Medical Center in Miami, Florida, in which a cracked sternum and several cracked ribs were discovered,” reads a statement from Reaume Brothers Racing.

According to the organization’s statement, Selig will be held in the Miami-area hospital overnight for further evaluation.

After the incident, Villarreal would continue on in Saturday’s event, where he would come home in 29th place, finishing three laps off the pace of eventual race-winner Carson Hocevar.

Selig, 33, was also scheduled to serve as front changer on the No. 78 Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, driven by Anthony Alfredo, at Homestead, but was unable to participate due to the incident.

Over the course of the season, Selig has served as a pit crew member for several teams including JD Motorsports, Emerling-Gase Motorsports, MBM Motorsports, Spire Motorsports, Jesse Iwuji Motorsports, Roper Racing, AM Racing, Young’s Motorsports, and others.
