During his time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Justin Allgaier hasn’t exactly been known as a stellar qualifier, having scored only a single pole position in the last four years, coming last season at Pocono.

Scoring his eighth career pole in qualifying for Saturday’s Alsco Uniforms 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Allgaier put the JR Motorsports No. 7 at the top of the scoring pylon in Friday’s qualifying session with a time of 29.806 seconds (181.172mph).

For the native of Riverton, Illinois, it’s just his fourth Xfinity Series pole position throughout his seven-plus seasons with JR Motorsports, two of which have come at the 1.5-mile facility in North Carolina.

John Hunter Nemechek and Ty Gibbs, teammates at Joe Gibbs Racing, qualified in second and third place, and were the only other drivers to break into the 29-second bracket in qualifying, surpassing an average speed of 180mph.

Cole Custer and Brandon Jones completed the race’s top-five starters. Kyle Busch, Sheldon Creed, Sam Mayer, Jeb Burton, and Chandler Smith completed the 10 quickest cars in Friday’s single-car qualifying session.

Daniel Hemric (11th), Riley Herbst (13th), Josh Berry (14th), Austin Hill (17th), and Sammy Smith (18th) were among other notables that failed to secure a starting position inside the top-10.

Ryan Sieg, Parker Retzlaff, and Jeffrey Earnhardt all failed to make a lap in Friday’s session, after running into issues during practice. Sieg, driving the No. 39 Ford Mustang for RSS Racing, had an engine grenade in practice, cutting his on-track time short.

With 40 cars entered for Saturday’s home race at Charlotte, two teams would fail to qualify for the event, after posting laps outside the top-33. Those two drivers were Timmy Hill and CJ McLaughlin, driving for MBM Motorsports and Emerling-Gase Motorsports.

Dawson Cram, who needed to post a speed inside the top-33, succeeded in doing that, qualifying 26th for CHK Racing.
