Norm Benning crashed in the opening minutes of Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice at North Wilkesboro Speedway, damaging his No. 6 Chevrolet Silverado.

Norm Benning’s path to qualifying for Saturday’s Tyson 250 at North Wilkesboro Speedway has gotten a lot more difficult, after crashing early in Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series practice session.

Benning, driving his self-owned No. 6 for the second time in 2023, was on his second run in Friday’s 50-minute practice session, when he got loose over the bumps in turn three, crashing into the outside wall.

At the time of the accident, Benning was the slowest on the speed charts, in 40th place, with a best time of 22.081, which equates to about a second and a half slower than session leader Carson Hocevar.

One positive for Benning is that qualifying for Saturday’s NASCAR Truck Series event doesn’t take place until Saturday, giving the team a significant amount of time to figure out the next steps for Norm Benning Racing.

However, an already difficult task in making the 36-truck field for Saturday’s 250-lap contest has become more difficult for Benning, who was already struggling for speed in the opening minutes of practice.
