Baltazar Leguizamón, who was originally announced as the driver of the No. 66 MBM Motorsports machine for this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series Pit Boss 250 at Circuit of the Americas back in December, will now pilot the No. 74 entry for CHK Racing in the event.

CHK Racing made the official announcement at 11:00 PM ET on Monday.

“We are excited to have Leguizamón in our CHK Racing’s No. 74 Chevrolet Camaro during the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at COTA. We are proud to have the First Argentinean compete at such a high level for us,” CHK Racing co-owner Mike Harmon said in the team’s press release.

TEDIT, Alstadt Brewery, and RUS Seguros will serve as sponsorship partners for the effort.

For the 22-year-old racer, this opportunity at Circuit of the Americas is a dream come true.

“I’m really happy to have a dream becoming real, can’t be more excited to represent Argentina for the first time ever in a Nascar national series, hope to have a good weekend, our goal will be to finish the race, I have a lot of work to do with no prior testing, so it’s going to be the best challenge of my life,” Leguizamón said. “I have to thank CHK Racing for the trust, and also to all my sponsors and people who support me in my career, including my friend, of nine years Bruce Bohlander. Let’s move forward.”

Leguizamón is an interesting driving prospect as he finished runner-up in the 2018 F3 Americas Championship in a season, which saw him score two victories. Additionally, Leguizamón won 10 of his 13 starts in the Atlantic Championship that same season and ended up hoisting the championship trophy in that series.

The native of Argentina definitely knows his way around a road course, now he’ll have the opportunity to attempt to translate that skill to NASCAR stock cars in Austin, Texas. And if Leguizamón can turn a fast enough lap in qualifying, the CHK Racing team could make its second start of the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season.

It will not be an easy task though as there are 42 entries for this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series event at COTA, and there are only 38 spots available, which means four drivers and teams will not make it into the event.
