There were high hopes for Hailie Deegan when she announced a move to ThorSport Racing in the offseason for the 2023 NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series season. While the season could still end up being the best of her young career, things are off to a rocky start.
After a crash in the season-opening event at Daytona International Speedway, Deegan secured the fifth-place starting position for Friday night’s Victoria’s Voice Foundation 200 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
But just before the end of Stage 2 of Friday night’s race, Deegan found trouble again.
In a four-wide battle off of turn 2 with John Hunter Nemechek, Christian Eckes, and Corey Heim, Deegan lost control and careened into Nemechek.
The contact sent Nemechek into the wall and caused enough damage to Deegan’s No. 13 Ford F-150 to end her night.
Here is a video of the crash between Deegan and Nemechek:

In addition to Deegan and Nemechek, it appeared Ross Chastain also made slight contact in the crash as he attempted to avoid the spinning truck of Nemechek.
