ORIGINAL STORY/VIDEO

Chase Elliott, who entered the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs Round of 12 as the No. 1 seed, looked to be heading toward a possible win in Sunday’s Autotrader EchoPark 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.

That is until it all came undone. Elliott was leading the race when something appeared to break on his No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro in turn 4 on lap 185.

Elliott went into the outside wall, and his car’s left front wheel area burst into flames as he skidded across the frontstretch. Here is video of the incident that ended Chase Elliott’s race, as it happened live on the USA Network broadcast:

As a result of the crash, a potential fifth victory of the 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season will instead result in a 32nd-place finish.
