Just a couple of minutes after the report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic that Kyle Busch will go to Richard Childress Racing, Busch spoke with the media, where he reiterated that there were things going on behind the scenes still.
“I do not have any new news to share,” Busch told the media. “If I did, I guarantee you there would be some sort of big announcement. So, unfortunately, there hasn’t been one of those yet Bob, so I’m still working on it behind the scenes, trying to put it all together, it’s not done.”
The beginning of the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series season will bring some earth-shattering changes to the landscape of NASCAR’s top level, as it appears that Kyle Busch – the series’ only active multi-time champion – will be headed to Richard Childress Racing.
According to a report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic, Busch is set to terminate a 15-year relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing and Toyota Racing Development at season’s end, reuniting with Chevrolet, for the first time since 2007.
Busch’s impending free agency has been a hot topic of discussion among the media over the last couple of months, with multiple rumors circulating, all suggesting different landing places for the 37-year-old.
Among the heavily-rumored destinations for Busch were Kaulig Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing, and 23XI Racing, with Richard Childress Racing coming into the discussion later on in the proceedings.
At this time, it’s unclear if Busch would be joining Richard Childress Racing as a replacement for Tyler Reddick – who will depart the organization after next season – or if he’ll run a third entry for the long-standing team.
Saturday’s report by The Athletic suggests that Ty Gibbs – who competes full time in the NASCAR Xfinity Series for Joe Gibbs Racing – is expected to be announced as the new driver of the No. 18 for 2023.
The official announcement of Busch joining Richard Childress Racing is expected to occur on Tuesday, September 13.
