NASCAR Issues L1 Penalties to Both Petty GMS Cars For Illegal Rocker Box Assemblies

NASCAR threw the book at Petty GMS Motorsports Sunday at Pocono Raceway. The organization saw it’s No. 42 car driven by Ty Dillon and their No. 43 car driven by Erik Jones, each slapped with an L1 penalty.

According to a release from NASCAR, both cars violated section 14.6.5.E of the NASCAR Cup Series rulebook, which pertains to the Rocker Box Assemblies of the cars.

Both the No. 42 and No. 43 drivers and teams have been docked 35 points in the driver and owner standings and the crew chiefs for both teams have been ejected for the race M&M’s Fan Appreciation 400 weekend at Pocono Raceway.

Petty GMS Motorsports has released a statement that they do not intend on appealing the penalties and that Joey Cohen will serve as Dillon’s crew chief on Sunday, while Danny Efland will serve as Jones’ crew chief.

The penalty will drop Jones from 17th to 19th in the NASCAR Cup Series driver standings, while Dillon will drop from 28th to 30th.
