Martin Truex Jr. has been weighing his options for 2023. It all boils down to: Will the 2017 NASCAR Cup Series champion continue on for another season, or will he ride off into the sunset?

According to Truex, 41, in a media bullpen scrum session at WWT Raceway at Gateway, he still doesn’t have anything to announce.

“Everybody asks me, but I still don’t have any news,” Truex explained. “I’ll let you know when I find out.”

In regards to his looming decision, Truex says he is thinking about, “”Everything. Everything. I’m taking it all into account. My whole life. All of racing. Everything.”

Truex said that he thinks about the dilemma, about whether he’ll keep racing, literally every day and that the answer is coming soon. When pressed more on it later in the session, Truex responded that his news should come within the next couple of weeks.

“A lot going on. It’s a big decision. A lot of factors,” Truex explained. “I would say within a couple of weeks, you will know what I’m doing.”

At the end of the conversation about the decision, FOX Sports’ Bob Pockrass asked Truex if the decision hinged more on his quality of life rather than the financial aspect of things.

“I would say that’s fair, a fair statement,” Truex said. “Yep.”

Regardless of what he decides, it seems the New Jersey-native is getting very close to unlocking the next step of his life.

Heading into this weekend’s Enjoy Illinois 300 at WWT Raceway at Gateway, Truex sits fifth in the NASCAR Cup Series championship standings.\

Truex has amassed 31 victories over the course of his NASCAR Cup Series career, which will hit the 600 starts milestone this weekend. In addition to his championship in 2017, Truex has finished runner-up in the NASCAR Cup Series point standings in three of the last four seasons.
