The first caution of the 106th Running of the Indianapolis 500 came out after Rinus VeeKay crashed from second-place.

The 21-year-old Dutchman was running in second when the backend of his No. 21 Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet snapped in Turn 2 and into the outside wall, dashing any hopes of victory on Lap 39.
