Report: Chase Elliott Fails Inspection, To Start at Rear of the Field For Sunday’s Go Bowling At The Glen

Update 11:52 a.m. – Motorsports.com’s Jim Utter is reporting that Chase Elliott and the No. 9 team have been assessed an L1 penalty.

Crew chief Alan Gustafson has been ejected, and the car still has yet to pass inspection.

After pre-race inspection issues at Watkins Glen, defending Cup Series champion Chase Elliott will start Sunday’s Go Bowling At The Glen from the rear of the field, according to NBC Sports’ Dustin Long.

At the time of publishing, the issue with the No. 9 Camaro was not specified. An image posted to the NASCAR on NBC Social media account shows work being done on the left rear of the car. It is unclear if the image is from this morning at the Glen, or from a previous race.

Elliott was originally slated to roll off 11th, as he goes to win his third consecutive win at the iconic road course.

The Go Bowling At The Glen is set to green at 3 p.m. EST on NBCSN.
