It’s only fitting that an orginial member of the famed Alabama Gang will be honored in a special way when the NASCAR Cup Series visits Talladega this weekend for the GEICO 500.

B.J. McLeod, and Live Fast Motorsports will honor NASCAR legend Red Farmer with a special recreation of his iconic Long-Lewis paint scheme. To add to the throwback authenticity, Long-Lewis is making their return to NASCAR for the occasion.

“Racing and Red Farmer have been a part of the Long-Lewis heritage for more than 50 years and so has the strong friendship between Vaughn Burrell and Red,” said Todd Ouellette, Owner and President of Long-Lewis Auto Group. “To have these two legends actually at the Talladega race on Sunday watching our Cup Series car run in honor of that relationship, will be a day I will never forget! I cannot wait!”

Long-Lewis partnered with Farmer in 1962 for the first time, and spent a number of years backing him. Nearly 50 years later, the classic gold and white will once again hit the track.

“It’s nice to have Long-Lewis on the 78 car this weekend,” said Charles ‘Red’ Farmer. “I’ve had that gold and white car since 1955 and Long-Lewis started sponsoring me in ’62 and been on my car ever since. Talladega is a great place for me, I call it my home-town track. I won two Arca 500’s on that track and a bunch of others. Glad to see a cup team running my colors again there.”

While not driving, Live Fast co-owner Matt Tifft says it seems fitting that one of the newest teams to NASCAR will reflect on the sport’s history, espeically at a place as historical as Talladega.

“There are no more legendary than that of Red Farmer and his dedication to this sport that put NASCAR on the map,” Tifft said. “Bringing a partner like Long-Lewis and their partners together on this Mustang gives a great sense of pride, and with our consistent runs over the last few months and speed we are finding, we are ready to push towards our best finish of the year. Talladega is a wildcard race, and always of excitement and survival, so we are ready to take on that challenge!”

The paint scheme reveal for Live Fast marks the second Red Farmer scheme revealed this week. On Wednesday night in the eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series race at Talladega, Trackhouse will also honor Red Farmer with a near identical paint scheme, changing their No. 99 to a No. 97.

Fans can see the No. 78 Long-Lewis Ford hit the track at Talladega on Sunday, April 25th at 2:00 PM EST on FOX and the FOX Sports App.
